Town of Wallkill residents and visitors, spring is upon us and hopefully the weather should begin to improve.  Along with the arrival of spring and warm weather, the construction of the new Exit 122 interchange for Route 17 is set to resume.  Some of this construction will require some temporary road closures and a new traffic pattern on Crystal Run Road.

The temporary road closures will be on East Main Street, from the Main entrance to Orange Regional Medical Center and the Route 17 Eastbound On Ramp.  The closure will be in the form of one lane of traffic alternating in either direction, flag persons will be in this area controlling the traffic.

The new traffic pattern on Crystal Run Road will cause traffic in both directions to be reduced by one lane from Chili's Restaurant to the area of the Blue Cross Building (85 Crystal Run Road). This will eliminate the turning lanes for the New York State Police Barracks, the ORMC Medical Pavilion, and the Holiday Inn.  The loss of the turning lanes may cause increased traffic on Crystal Run Road, especially during business hours.

Traffic on Route 17 will also be shifted, so that all lanes East and Westbound will be traveling on what is currently the Westbound side.  This is to allow for the construction of the new ramps for Interstate 84 and East Main Street.  Traffic impact on Route 17 should be minimal during this, as most of the work will be taking place off of the highway.

We ask that residents and visitors try and avoid these areas when possible.  This will hopefully decrease traffic in these areas and make it easier for you to travel around this area during the construction.  We will make every effort to provide you with more information as it becomes available to us.  Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.
