The Awesome Achievers made a beautiful display at Town Hall for National 4-H Week, October 4 - 10, 2015. They displayed many of their projects in an antique glass cabinet including various pins; club/individual awards and ribbons; and one-in-kind 4-H memorabilia including a 1941 4-H Club jacket! Each member wrote on paper clovers what 4-H meant to them. These clovers were placed on top of the display case for the community to read. Over 80% of the children attending the Middletown Elementary Schools are receiving free and/or reduced breakfasts and lunches. Many of these children do not receive sufficient food when school is not in session. The Middletown Lions Club has started the No Kid Hungry Program to help alleviate child hunger by providing these children with backpacks of nutritious and easy to prepare food on Friday afternoons so they have food to eat throughout the weekend.
The Middletown Lions are hoping to fill 60 backpacks each Thursday, and even with that number, there are still children on a waiting list for weekend backpacks. To find out more about the program or to donate food items, please call Glenice Foglia at (845)344-8104.
